Ultherapy is an innovative non-surgical “facelift” which tightens lax skin around the neck, chin and brow. If you’re disappointed by the signs of aging on your face, but you’re not ready to commit to an invasive medical procedure, Ultherapy may be the ideal solution for you. At A Younger You Medical Spa in Burlington, WI, we want to help our clients achieve their ideal aesthetic without the need for downtime. Today, we answer some of your most commonly asked questions about this treatment, including how often you should receive “touch-up” treatments.
What Is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved non-invasive treatment to lift the skin on the brow, chin and neck. It is also safe and effective for eliminating fine lines and moderate-to-severe wrinkles on the decolletage. Through the use of extremely precise ultrasound, this treatment lifts and tightens loose skin slowly over time. In the meantime, there is no downtime or recovery. You can go straight back to your daily routine.
How Does It Differ From Alternatives?
This non-invasive cosmetic treatment stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen deep beneath the surface of your skin through micro-focused ultrasound technology. Because it takes time for your body to develop new, strong collagen, it usually takes between two and three months to see the results of treatment. However, it can take up to six months to see the results of your treatment depending on your unique circumstances.
Besides the dramatic results of treatment and lack of downtime, the use of ultrasound technology really helps this treatment rise above its competition. In fact, it is the only anti-aging treatment to use ultrasound imaging. This allows your physician to see the actual layers of tissue which need to be targeted during treatment. It guarantees that the energy is targeted precisely to where it is most needed.
How Does It Differ From Laser Treatments in Particular?
This treatment differs from laser treatments in many ways. Primarily, it uses sound energy rather than light energy. The most significant benefit of this is it can penetrate the deepest layers of your skin. Contrastingly, laser therapy cannot penetrate your deepest skin layers. Laser treatments are not FDA-approved to lift skin, and the results will never be as dramatic as those received during ultrasound treatment.
The second most significant benefit of this treatment over laser treatment is that it is safe and effective for all skin types. Laser technology has come a long way over the past several years. The wavelength of the laser light can be more precisely fine-tuned to safely treat different types of skin on the Fitzpatrick scale. But it still has a long way to go to be universally safe.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Nearly all of our clients need only one treatment to achieve their desired results. It may be possible that you need a second treatment before your body builds enough collagen to lift and tighten your skin to achieve your desired youthful aesthetic.
How Often Should I Receive Treatment?
The results of treatment can last up to two years. However, we strongly recommend our clients come in nine months after their initial treatment to evaluate the results.
Usually, we recommend receiving a maintenance treatment every year. This ensures your body has enough time to produce new, healthy collagen and elastin before the original results have worn off. If you have significant volume loss in your face, particularly your cheeks, you may need a maintenance treatment every six months. Volume loss is most often caused by drastic weight loss and drastically reduced collagen production.
What Can I Expect During Treatment?
Each treatment will take between 30 and 90 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. However, there is never any downtime associated with this treatment. While nearly all laser treatments can be uncomfortable, Ultherapy is not uncomfortable at all.
You may feel a slight warmth beneath your skin’s surface as your body’s collagen production is being stimulated. But a topical numbing cream is applied before your treatment so you feel no pain or discomfort as the sound energy penetrates your skin in the right location to the precise depth.
Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?
The best candidate for this treatment is bothered by the degree of laxity in the skin on their face, neck or chest. He or she may also seek to add volume to hollow cheeks. As a general rule of thumb, the best candidate for this treatment is at least 30 years of age and suffers from mild-to-moderate skin laxity.
However, you may still be a good candidate for this treatment if your skin is fairly healthy but you want to stay ahead of the game. It may be used to replace a facelift or extend the time required before a maintenance facelift. During your initial consultation, we will help you determine if this is the best anti-aging treatment to achieve your aesthetic goals.
What Complementary Treatments Will Help Me Reach My Aesthetic Goals?
Injectables make an excellent complement to Ultherapy. BOTOX® is a neuromodulator featuring a derivative of botulinum toxin. It helps to smooth wrinkles, lines and folds caused by hyperactive facial muscles. In the face, it is most often used to treat crow’s feet, frown lines and smile lines.
If you need a little extra help with volume loss, dermal fillers are a great choice. Restylane is a hyaluronic acid filler that stimulates your body’s natural collagen production process to plump up your lips, contour your cheeks and fill in deep facial folds quickly, safely and effectively.
