Micro needling

It is very common for people to become unhappy with the appearance of their skin as they grow older. Skin aging can be slowed down somewhat through lifestyle choices that enhance good health and proper skin care regimens. There are two types of aging: intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging.

Intrinsic aging involves natural processes that occur as we grow older. Decreases in collagen and elastin production, loss of underlying fat, decreased cellular regeneration and sagging skin actually begin in the twenties and progress as one grows older. While gravity cannot be stopped, we can do things to slow down and even reverse skin aging.

Extrinsic aging is usually referred to as “photo aging” because it is caused by exposure to sunlight. The sun's UV rays begin breaking down collagen and elastin, two components of healthy skin. Other things like smoking, alcohol consumption and poor diets contribute to skin aging.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery has become increasingly popular as a way of turning back the clock on aging skin. However, many people prefer methods that are not so invasive, expensive and time-consuming. There are such methods available that are simpler, less invasive and require less downtime.

What is Micro Needling?

Micro needling has seen rapid increases in the numbers of treatments performed recently, largely due to it being a safe and effective alternative to traditional cosmetic surgery. While micro needling may not always equal cosmetic surgery in terms of dramatic results, it still offers significant results that are not as drastic.

We perform micro needling by gently passing over the skin a device containing many tiny, sterilized needles. These needles penetrate to a shallow depth in the skin, forming many small openings. These micro-injuries trigger the body into a state of skin rejuvenation, leading to the production and distribution of more collagen into these areas.

This process causes skin cell turnover of old cells in favor of new skin cells. As the skin heals itself over the course of the following weeks and months, new collagen leads to skin that appears smoother and more youthful. Skin discoloration is reduced, fine lines and wrinkles are minimized and scars due to acne or trauma become less noticeable.

Is Micro Needling Safe to Use with Other Treatments?

Yes. In fact, micro needling makes the application of certain topical skin care ingredients much more effective because it creates tiny channels for the products to flow through into deeper levels of the skin.
