According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, facelifts have become popular even for younger people, with surgeons performing nearly 6,000 facelifts each year on people under the age of 54.
Facelifts are highly invasive procedures, however, and not everyone wants to go through surgery and a long recovery process. An alternative is Ultherapy.
Ultherapy treatments can give you noticeable results with no downtime. Read more about this non-surgical facelift option.
Ultherapy Treatment: How Does It Work?
Ultherapy is an FDA-approved treatment option that lifts and sculpts your face. The technology Ultherapy relies on stimulates collagen, a protein vital for hydrating skin and keeping it firm.
As you age, collagen production decreases, and your skin becomes less flexible. You can experience skin laxity issues and start seeing wrinkles and fine lines forming.
Ultherapy works by targeting areas beneath the skin with focused ultrasound energy. The applicator allows us to apply the exact temperature needed to stimulate the production of collagen. The heat from the applicator can affect three different layers, including:
- Superficial wrinkles
This procedure is effective for the face and chest, especially in the neckline region and the decolletage area. It is a treatment suitable for both men and women.
Unlike laser and radiofrequency treatments, Ultherapy bypasses your top skin layer to target deeper, stimulating collagen production.
Some of the most popular treatment areas are:
- Under the chin
The best candidates for Ultherapy treatments are people who want to fix some of the sagging skin on their faces and necks. They should have some skin elasticity and should be in good overall health. People with extreme skin laxity are not the best candidates for this procedure, and Ultherapy results may not be as noticeable as you want.
Benefits of Ultherapy
Ultherapy is non-invasive, so there is no downtime you have to worry about. Procedures like facelifts can have a very long recovery time and can interfere with your daily life, but Ultherapy ensures you can get back to your routine while still enjoying excellent results.
Ultherapy results are natural-looking. Because the treatment uses your body’s natural collagen production process to help you attain the results, you do not have to worry about a stiff look. The results are also more gradual.
Treatment sessions are quick and take place as an outpatient procedure. Ultherapy also allows us to customize treatment for each person. We can find and use the right temperature level to stimulate your individual collagen production process.
It also offers long-lasting results. Many people continue to benefit from the results for more than a year before needing to undergo further treatment.
How Do You Prepare for Ultherapy?
When you schedule an appointment with us, we will take a look at the treatment areas to see if you are a good candidate for Ultherapy. If you are, we will ask for your full medical history, as well as a list of any medications you take. Let us know about supplements and vitamins you take, as well.
We ask that you stop taking blood-thinning medications and supplements, like ibuprofen, fish oil, St. John’s Wort, and aspirin. Check with your doctor before stopping prescriptions. Three to five days before your treatment, avoid direct sun exposure and stop using products with Retinol, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid.
If you have a cold sore or an infection in the treatment area, we will reschedule the appointment.
The Procedure and Aftercare
Do not wear makeup, lotions, or creams on the day of treatment. Keep your hair away from your face so that we have full and easy access.
If you prefer, we can provide a topical anesthetic before beginning the procedure. Once you are comfortable, we will apply an ultrasound gel and use the patented device on the targeted areas.
The procedure can take between 30 and 90 minutes. Once we finish, you are free to resume your normal activities.
We do ask that you avoid blood-thinning medication for a few days after the procedure and that you also stay out of direct sunlight. You should also avoid activities that cause excessive sweating, like vigorous exercise, saunas, or hot tubs, for at least three days.
The number of sessions you will need depends on your body and the treatment areas. Some people can benefit from multiple sessions, while others can start seeing results after just one session.
Some people start noticing results just a few days after their procedure. How quickly this happens depends on your body’s collagen production process.
The results will continue to improve over the following weeks and months, with the most visible results usually appearing around three months after the last treatment session. Ultherapy results can last for up to two years.
At our first consultation, we will assess how many sessions you may need so that you know what to expect from the procedure.
