Common Questions Answered About Latisse

September 23, 2019 by A Younger You

Do you like to look glamorous? Like most of us, you are nodding your head yes. You stay beautiful by taking care of your skin, working out, and eating healthy. What about your eyelashes? Hardly anything gives you that glam look more than luscious, full lashes. Perhaps yours are more on the thin and brittle side. You’re in luck. For less-than-luscious lashes, there is a treatment called Latisse®. We here at A Younger You are cosmetic professionals and have the answers to all of your burning questions about Latisse®.

What is Latisse®?

Latisse® is the first and only FDA-approved cosmetic prescription treatment for fuller, darker eyelashes. It is made from the pharmaceuticals giant, Allergan.

How Was It Discovered?

In 2001, Allergan made a medicated eye drop to treat elevated intraocular pressure. Many patients using the treatment reported their eyelashes were growing longer, fuller and darker (a thrilling side effect). Allergan studied the medication’s active ingredient, bimatoprost, specifically for growing lashes. Allergan then conducted a clinical trial to study the safety and effectiveness for lash growth. The result was FDA approval for the breakthrough product in December of 2008. They have sold over 5 million bottles of Latisse® since then.

What Makes It Different From Other Products?

Latisse® is the only FDA-approved prescription product that grows longer, fuller, and darker eyelashes. Other non-prescription competitors have no research to support their effectiveness, nor are they FDA-approved. Many other eyelash products on the market are only conditioners, like the kind used for hair. They do not grow or enhance lashes.

Is Latisse® a Replacement for Mascara?

No, it does not work as a replacement for mascara. It is a treatment for inadequate eyelashes and requires a prescription. As your eyelashes grow darker and fuller, your need for mascara may lessen.

How Does It Work?

It works by lengthening the eyelash hair growth phase. You end up growing longer, thicker lashes.

How Long Until I See Results?

Eyelash growth is a gradual process, but some users see results in as little as 8 weeks. However, full results appear at 12 to 16 weeks. In clinical studies after 4 months of treatment, lashes were 25% longer, 106% thicker, and 18% darker.

How Do I Apply It?

Apply the treatment yourself each evening to the base of the upper eyelashes. Each product kit contains detailed instructions for its proper application, with video demonstrations available. Remove any makeup, clean the upper eyelids and remove any contact lenses, if applicable. Place lenses back a set time after application. Using the single-use applicator brush provided in the packaging, place one drop of the product on the applicator brush and apply to the base of the upper eyelid lash margin.

For best results, use once a day for 16 weeks for beginners. Using it more than once a day does not grow your lashes any faster or improve the treatment’s effectiveness. To keep your lashes thicker and darker, continue to use the treatment as directed.

What If I Forget a Treatment?

If you miss your daily application, don’t worry about playing catch up. Don’t double up on treatments. Just apply Latisse® the next evening and restart your schedule.

Is It Safe?

Yes, the treatment is FDA-approved and safe when used as directed.

When Does It Expire?

A bottle of Latisse® expires no less than 16 months from its shipping date. We list the expiration date as a month and year.

Is It Only Available By Prescription?

Yes, a prescription is required to order the product.

Are There Other Helpful Tips for Application or Use?

  • Make a routine- Incorporate the treatment into your nightly routine, after you’ve done your normal face washing, etc.
  • Keep it on hand- Store the bottle of product near other skin care products so you won’t forget to apply it daily.
  • Be patient- It takes time to work. Using more than once a day does not increase the growth process. Some users notice results in as little as 8 weeks, with maximum growth length realized at around 16 weeks.
  • Follow directions- Always use the sterile, disposable, FDA-approved applicator provided in the kit. Do not apply with a cotton swab.
  • Stay on track- If you’re completely satisfied with your results by week 12, you still should stick with the treatment. Allow the full effect of the treatment to arrive at week 16.

Are You a Good Candidate for Latisse?

October 1, 2018 by A Younger You

Latisse

Who doesn’t want to have long, lush, and thick eyelashes? There’s just something about having full lashes that brings out the allure of your eyes. It evokes class, beauty, and mystery, especially when partnered up with your favorite eye makeup. But just how does one get those thick lashes without any attachments or surgeries? The answer: Latisse®. This treatment is offered by the experts at A Younger You in Burlington and Brookfield, and it may be just what you need to look and feel your best.

Latisse® is the key to unlocking those beautiful and long eyelashes. If you are a woman who values her beauty, this is a natural and safe way to make your eyes look great.

What is Latisse®?

Latisse® is the only FDA-approved medication for eyelash enhancement. It goes under the medical name “bimatoprost ophthalmic solution.” This solution is 0.03% bimatoprost, a prostaglandin analog prescription used in the management of ocular hypertension. It is commonly prescribed to glaucoma patients, used topically (as eye drops) to control the progression of the disease. Prostaglandins are found naturally in our bodies, and they perform different functions in the cells and tissues, such as reducing inflammation and decreasing intraocular pressure by controlling the outflow of aqueous eye fluids.

Bimatoprost is marketed under the trademark Lumigan (marketed in Canada, the United States, and Europe by Allergan). It was originally used in glaucoma treatments, but doctors noticed a beneficial side effect: patients started having longer, lusher, and fuller eyelashes. This discovery prompted the pharmaceutical company to create a new market for the cosmetic prescription. In December 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a cosmetic formulation of bimatoprost commercially sold as Latisse®.

The way the product works is not fully understood yet by clinical studies. Eyelashes sprout from the hair follicles along the eyelids; this product is believed to stimulate the hair follicles, encouraging a fuller and longer growth and also extending the lifespan of the newly grown hair.

How to Apply It

Latisse® is a topical prescription applied by brushing it along the upper eyelid lash line using the official applicator (not on the eye itself). The solution automatically spreads to your lower lash line when you blink.

Tips on using the product include:

  1. Make sure you remove any makeup or contact lenses ahead of time.
  2. Dab the sterile applicator on the solution.
  3. Brush the solution gently on the lash line on the upper eyelid.
  4. Do not brush more than twice.
  5. Do not apply it on your lower lid (according to the manufacturer’s instructions).
  6. Be careful not to brush the solution on other areas around the eyes.
  7. Only use the prescribed applicator once – do not reuse!
  8. Ideally, apply the solution once every evening.
  9. After two months, you should begin to see results.
  10. Your eye doctor may recommend a different treatment schedule, so it’s important to consult accordingly.

Make the Most Out of Your Eyelashes

Having long eyelashes is already beautiful enough, but you can make it even better by applying makeup. Because Latisse® is a treatment that typically takes only a few minutes to apply, you can immediately put on your best makeup afterward.

Some makeup tips include:

  • Apply a neutral eye shadow color (should match your skin tone) over the eyelid.
  • Follow it up with a darker shade (two tones darker, or whatever is in vogue) along the outer corner of the eyelid and then blend nicely.
  • You can add glitter or shimmery color.
  • Primp your eyelashes using a curler.
  • Apply two coats of mascara on the upper lashes.
  • Apply one coat on the bottom lashes.
  • Apply highlighter on your brow areas.
  • If you want a more seductive look, you can opt for a cat’s eye look by using an eyebrow pencil.
  • If you wear contact lenses, make sure to apply them before applying makeup.

What are the Expected Results?

According to studies, users experience the best results after 16 weeks (4 months) of use. The reported results are:

  • Eyelash thickness increased by 106%
  • Length increased by 25%
  • Darkness increased by 18%

This is a prescribed prescription, so always consult with your eye doctor before using the prescription. Likewise, consult if you don’t get any results after 2 months, or if you experience side effects.

Who are Good Candidates?

Almost everyone and anyone who wants to achieve those beautiful and long eyelashes can qualify for the treatment. With that being said, the candidate must:

  • Be in good physical health
  • Be in good mental health
  • Get a prescription from a qualified professional
  • Have realistic expectations

Since this is still a prescription, there are potential undesired results to anyone with not-so-ideal conditions. Our team will make sure to take your medical history to determine whether you can use the prescription. As is the case with any treatment, there are certain things that can disqualify a person from undergoing the treatment. For example, it’s not a good idea for people with certain eye conditions or women who are pregnant or lactating.

Is It Safe?

According to clinical studies conducted before FDA-approval and after its commercial release, Latisse® is proven safe for most people. However, as mentioned above, the prescription isn’t for everyone, especially those with medical conditions like conjunctivitis or a stye, or someone with severe allergies. Because the bimatoprost active ingredient in the solution decreases intraocular pressure, it is not fit for anyone already using intraocular pressure prescriptions for glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Users have reported no problems or harmful side effects when the prescription got into their eyes.

Getting Started

Latisse® is a prescribed prescription. In other words, you cannot buy it over-the-counter as you will need to have a consultation with a qualified provider. If you want to know more this amazing product, our experts at A Younger You will gladly assist you. Our team will welcome you and determine if you qualify for the treatment. We have offices located in Burlington and Brookfield, and we happily serve clients throughout the surrounding areas. Thinning Eyelashes? Consider a Latisse Treatment

June 18, 2018 by A Younger You

Latisse

Have you noticed that your eyelashes are starting to get thinner as you get older? You likely feel that this is detracting from your appearance. The idea of using false eyelashes or eyelash extensions may not be appealing to you. If you would like to do something about thinning eyelashes, we invite you to learn about the benefits that come from Latisse®.

Latisse® is an exciting treatment that is helping individuals to get fuller, darker, and thicker eyelashes. It is the first and only treatment that has been approved by the FDA for this purpose.
It is a prescription medication that is applied one time per day along the upper eyelid where the eyelashes grow.

You may be wondering how Latisse® works. Every hair follicle on the human body has a growth phase, even the eyelashes. This product works by lengthening the growth phase that your eyelashes go through. Because that phase is increased, your eyelashes are able to grow for a longer period of time.

After you receive your Latisse® prescription, you will likely be instructed to apply the product one time per day along the base of the upper eyelashes. After the product has been applied along the upper lash line, it will spread to the lower lash line after you blink. You are likely to start seeing results about three or four months after you begin using the product. At that point, you can likely start using Latisse® every other day in order to maintain the results.

Latisse® is not a makeup product. It is not used to coat the eyelashes in order to make them longer or darker. It is a treatment that actually helps your eyelashes to grow. So you may get the best results when you use mascara in combination with Latisse®.

You may wonder what will happen if you were to stop using Latisse®. After a couple of months, your eyelashes will go back to looking how they do now.

Schedule a consultation with A Younger You to learn about your candidacy for Latisse®. Our offices are located in Burlington, WI and Brookfield, WI.
