How Does a HydraFacial Work?

HydraFacial

The U.S. Census estimates that the average American spends several hundreds of dollars a year on skin care products and many hours a year applying them. These products all go towards achieving glowing, youthful skin, but there is an alternative that can save you time and money.

HydraFacial is a treatment option that can help you achieve the healthy skin you want without the hassle of a long skincare routine.

Learn more about what a HydraFacial is, how it can help, and what results you can expect.

What Is a HydraFacial?

HydraFacial, sometimes called hydradermabrasion, involves microdermabrasion exfoliation and hydrating serums.

There are five parts to the HydraFacial procedure:

  • Deep-clean
  • Exfoliation
  • Extraction
  • Hydration
  • Antioxidant protection

It is a procedure that improves your skin as it cleanses it, boosting elasticity. It can help treat conditions like:

  • Acne
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Oily skin
  • Dry skin

This non-invasive treatment is similar to other facials, but it can offer more dramatic results. It uses a mechanized wand to clean and exfoliate your skin while also applying serums customized to your skin type.

At A Younger You Medical Spa, we offer boosters and perks to help customize the HydraFacial. We offer a spot correcting booster to brighten skin tone, an age-refining booster that can treat fine lines and stimulate collagen production, a protein booster, and HydraFacial Perks for your eyes and lips.

Practically everyone is a good candidate for HydraFacial. If you have recently received dermal filler injections, have an active infection or rash in the treatment area, or take medications that make your skin extra-sensitive, we will consider alternative options.

HydraFacial Benefits

There are a variety of HydraFacial benefits you can enjoy. Because of the microdermabrasion step during the facial, it can be an effective treatment for acne and acne scars.

HydraFacial can also help even out skin tone and texture for all skin types, from sensitive to dry skin. Because of the advanced technology used for these treatments, you can also get consistent results.

HydraFacial benefits also include no downtime. That is not the case if you get chemical peels or other types of deep facials. You can even apply makeup on the same day of treatment, giving you the flexibility you need if you have a busy schedule.

The results are immediate, as well.

Preparing for a HydraFacial

When you schedule a consultation with us, we will ask for your full medical history and a list of the medications you take. If you have taken Accutane recently, you may have to wait before getting a HydraFacial. We will put together a skincare regimen for you to follow leading up to your appointment. Usually, it includes a hydropeptide product.

We ask that you do not get laser treatments, dermal fillers, or chemical peels at least two weeks before the procedure.

Avoid Botox and other neuromodulator injections the week before the HydraFacial. You can schedule a Botox appointment right after the procedure if you want.

The week before the procedure, begin your skincare routine using our recommended products. For three days before your treatment, stay out of the sun and make sure to wear sunscreen at all times.

Two days before treatment, stop using acne medication, especially those that include salicylic acid, and avoid any kind of exfoliating products.

On the day of the HydraFacial procedure, men should not shave. You should come with a clean face.

The HydraFacial Procedure

We begin treatment by using the Vortex-Exfoliation Activ-4 serum, which removes dead skin and allows for the healthy skin beneath to absorb all of the necessary nutrients.

Then, we apply the Vortex-Peel, which is a mixture of glycolic and salicylic acids that provides similar results to a chemical peel but in a milder way. We will change the tip of the wand to perform this step.

The Vortex-Extraction Beta-HD serum is next. We use the serum with vortex suction to remove debris, impurities, and blackheads from your skin.

We then apply the Vortex-Fusion Antiox+ serum, which provides antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid to protect and nourish your skin.

Once the HydraFacial procedure is over, we will give you instructions on protecting your skin with medical-grade products you can use at home.

The entire procedure can take as little as 30 minutes.

Aftercare Tips

For 24 hours after a HydraFacial, avoid heat. Don't use hot tubs, saunas, or tanning beds. Take lukewarm showers and do not perform vigorous exercise that can raise your core body temperature.

Wait a few days to perform any exfoliating or waxing treatments. Don't use acne medication for the first two days after your HydraFacial. Wait at least two weeks to have a chemical peel.

If you have never had a HydraFacial before, it can be a good idea to start by getting two each month for about three months. Your skin will then have a healthy baseline, and you can turn to having a HydraFacial once a month.

Results can last for up to a week after the procedure.
