Age Spot Removal in Milwaukee with the IPL Photofacial

age spot removal

Mature adults usually find it difficult to minimize the appearance of age spots, freckles and injury scars. The facial skin isn't producing as much collagen as it once did, and damaged cells continue to reproduce without improvement. We have good news for our present and future clients in the Milwaukee area. Our experience with IPL photofacial therapy has given us the know-how to use this technology to specifically target dark spots in the skin and rejuvenate the skin in these problem areas. If you are looking for an effective form of age spot removal, the IPL photofacial may be the answer.

Intense pulsed light was originally approved by the FDA to work as a hair-removing treatment. Today, it is more popular than laser treatment for the reduction of age spots and moderate wrinkling. Several IPL treatments, each of which takes only about 30 minutes to complete, can significantly diminish these discolorations by stimulating new tissue growth.

IPL Versus Lasers for Age Spot Removal

Lasers use a single wavelength of light to cauterize tissue. The energy is quite concentrated, but the frequency cannot be calibrated to target a wide range of tissues. Everyone has their own skin tone, texture, skin thickness, and depth of discolorations. Intense pulsed light, or IPL, is produced by a specialized instrument that can emit broad-spectrum light beams, and the device is calibrated to account for all factors including the exact tone of the age spot.

Candidates for IPL photofacial treatment are mature adults who are in overall good health and who are experiencing a more noticeable darkening or enlargement of freckles, sun spots, and scarring. Age spots are generally located below the epidermis, and this is what makes IPL the most suitable treatment method. The light energy is focused to penetrate through the epidermal layer and be absorbed by darker tissues with chromophores.

During the Treatment

We give the client protective eye shades to wear during the procedure. This prevents stray light beams from hitting the retinas. The skin is treated with a soothing gel that also acts as a focusing lens. The device is placed next to the skin, and the lamp is flashed for just a few milliseconds. The client will feel a sharp snapping sensation each time the lamp is flashed. The light energy is absorbed by the darker cells of the age spot, freckle, or scar.

This causes the cells to become damaged. The body responds to this slight injury by sending nutrients to the affected area. Rapid creation of replacement tissue commences, and after three or four treatment sessions, visual improvement is noticeable.

Advantages of IPL Photofacials

This is a simple outpatient procedure, and there's no downtime for the client afterward. The skin isn't subjected to chemicals, so bleaching is rare. No surgery is performed, meaning no scars to worry about. A positive side effect of IPL treatment is the shrinking of enlarged pores in the skin. Many of our clients choose IPL photofacial treatment specifically to smooth the skin on the nose and reduce the size of skin pores.

The results often last for up to a year. Without the visibility of age spots and sun spots, the skin appears much smoother and even in tone. Collagen production also increases after treatment, an added bonus.
